When the time comes to buying a car, the experience is very enjoyable but can be stressful at the same time. Buying a car is expensive after all, you want to be sure, so doing as much research beforehand is important. – When visiting dealerships, make sure you have a list of questions to ask before buying anything. A good example of this is knowing the difference between models of vehicles, for example: How does the Mercedes c class compare vs the e class?

To start you off with your search for a new car, below are our top things to consider when buying a car.

Insurance

Before buying any vehicle, it’s always important you check the price of the insurance for it. Insurance can be paid monthly or yearly, with the price varying a lot depending on the vehicle you buy. Things like the engine size, your location, your age, the value of the vehicle, previous claims as well as many other factors can impact the cost of your insurance. The easiest way to find the best price for car insurance is to run the car you are thinking of buying through a price comparison site.

New or used

When it comes to buying a car, you can go down two different routes – the new market or second-hand market. In most cases that route you go down depends on the budget you have available for the car you want to purchase. However, in some instances, you may be forced to enter the used market if you are in a rush for a certain type of vehicle. When buying second-hand, always make sure the car has a service history, and a valid MOT and ask the owner why they are selling. If possible, getting a warranty included would be beneficial – think always buy a car the smart way.

Purpose of the car

A major thing to consider is the purpose of buying the car you are thinking of buying. You want to make sure the car fits your purpose and that your purpose isn’t a short-term one – a car is expensive and you want it to last. Before buying, make a list of the pros and cons of buying said car, if the cons outweigh the pros, then chances are this car isn’t right for you.

Running costs

Every car is different, with each car having a different running cost attached to it. Some cars are extremely efficient and won’t cost you much to run, whilst others can be very expensive. Running costs can be affected by the car’s miles per gallon (electric will of course be best). The cost of upkeep should be taken into account such as new tyres or replacing anything that may, unfortunately, get damaged.
