Where can I take a staycation?

Anyone who has spent plenty of time in the UK already knows it has something for everybody. From beautiful rolling hills and open moor, dense green woodland, city breaks or the Cornish coast. You will find a caravan or campsite in all these locations, ideal for your family holiday. If you want to hitch your caravan and head off for a weekend, week, or even treat yourself to a month, here are your options. With so many places to visit let us take a look at “Up-North”, “Down-South”, and somewhere in the middle.

    Where can I visit “Up-North”?

There’s a song about how grim it is up North, but anyone who has spent time around Lancashire, Yorkshire, and even over into Scotland, knows the truth. Well, having lived there for forty years I can confirm that the weather can be a bit of a let down at times! They always say to bring your big coat and your wellies.

The North has plenty of stunning views for you to enjoy, from the Yorkshire Dales to the Lake District. Although it feels like a sprawling part of the country, you can always find a major city close by. Cities such as Leeds, Durham or Edinburgh offer shopping, cultural site seeing and nightlife.

Why not visit the Viking City of York? There are several caravan sites in the area and plenty of things to do in York. You could stay at Hook’s House Farm, near Robin Hood’s Bay, for a coastal holiday. Gibraltar Farm Campsite, in Lancashire, has some excellent coastal views for birdwatching. The local woodland is fantastic for exploring.

Where can I visit “Down South”?

Many people will head South when it comes to hitching up their caravan and taking some time away. The southern coast boasts plenty of choices in many counties. The English Riviera has an abundance of caravan sites and holiday parks.

Places like Suffolk, and especially Southwold, are fun for the whole family. They provide an enjoyable English seaside experience for adults and children alike. If you want to get even further away, Bryher Campsite on the Isles of Scilly can give you the peace, quiet, and stunning views. It offers all you’ve ever wanted from a relaxing camping experience. They are a tent only campsite but offer a relaxing holiday for all.
The Isle of Wight is open to caravan and motorhome visitors too. You can take the ferry over and stay at one of many sites on the Island.

These are the tip of the iceberg when it comes to exploring. You can find plenty of great sites all over Cornwall, Devon, Hampshire and Essex.

Where can I visit in Central England and the Midlands?

Middle England is often overlooked when it comes to taking a holiday in the UK. It doesn’t boast the south’s seaside atmosphere, nor the steely pride you find travelling through the North. This doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty to see.

The Derbyshire Dales and Peak District have a wealth of camping opportunities, with enough space to bring a whole group along. Furthermore, parts of the Midlands, especially Chester, are close enough to Wales that you can combine your trip with a visit to Abersoch. You can stay at the breathtaking Tyn-Y-Mur Campsite, overlooking the ocean. Make sure you keep your kids and pets under close supervision near the cliffs.
If you like the luxury of an adults only caravan site then Somers Wood is an absolute must. It is ideal if you are visiting the NEC for an exhibition or shopping at the Touchwood Centre.
A family day out at Alton Towers could be on the list for a Central England holiday experience. You can pitch up at The Camping and Caravanning Club Alton Site for a real family break.

    Adventure Awaits

No matter where you go in the UK, there will be something to captivate your imagination. Whether you’re heading away for a couples’ holiday or taking the kids on their first-ever adventure. No matter what you’re looking for, every part of the country has something to offer.
